I suppose NES color pallet for Luigi is basically this game's 'Fire Luigi', so the solution there would be to just make both Fire Mario and Fire Luigi both red and white. This is just a mockup, but Mario and Luigi in SMB1 would look something like this: So, while I want to avoid making too many 'alternate' versions of this hack, I did consider an alt using the colors based on the art. The secondary goal of this hack was also to make things a bit closer to the NES game, at least in ways that I don't personally find to be a downgrade like the flat color backgrounds of SMB3 just for the sake of adding the shadows. Obviously this is a retcon or just a nod to the sprite's color scheme, but it did remind me of something I had been thinking about even before these new images came to light. Game & Watch, and rather than being the usual red overalls with a blue shirt, Mario and Luigi's color pallets were actually based on their sprites in the game. Well, some brand new artwork for SMB1 was recently made for the new Super Mario Bros. As you know, this project was originally conceived with the goal simply to make the game more accurate to the artwork. I'm still waiting on Darksamus99's build script and MetalWario's SMB1 sprites so I've still nothing to share. Sorry for the long silence, i'm still trying to avoid bumping this thread when I've got nothing to update. Here are some other comparisons that show how off emulator palettes can be because the NES doesn't output pure RGB: I would upload my own palette, but I still want to fine-tune it to the smallest degree before uploading in case people send it around. The palette BMF_final2 is pretty close to my own but not right for many games. The bricks are also a lot darker than people realize.

An interview with Miyamoto backs this up as he said they went for a more purplish sky at the time. As you can see from my palette, it is an interesting shade between purple and blue. There has been a lot of contention about the color of the sky with some saying it is more purple than blue, etc. (Mostly) Accurate sky and bricks from my palette: My sky may be slightly off, but I will continue finishing my palette in the next few days to assure accurate colors in the palette, but this screenshot is in the right ballpark (very close if not already 100% right). Below you will find a screenshot of my palette from an emulator (Nestopia). I've spent many hours calibrating my own palette against my PVM. I made my own NES palette (for the system, not the game), which is more accurate than some of the gross palettes out there.

The RGB colors from the SNES are 100% accurate, which means my NES has accurate colors in composite as well.
